LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL: a closer look at natural stone rollers - do they work, and if so, how do we use them?
You’ve probably noticed the emergence of natural stone rollers over the last year – they’re making a splash in social media, available in just about every beauty retailer, and even have a cult following among professional estheticians. While their recent popularity might make them seem “trendy,” their use among Chinese elites dates back to the early 17th century.
Part of their resurgence in popularity is attributed to America’s recent celebrity-fueled obsession with crystals, and the spiritual and healing properties they are said to possess. Jade is the stone purification and nourishment; rose quartz is the stone of universal love and femininity; and White Agate is the stone of balance and release. I confess that, while I consider myself spiritual, I don’t believe these crystals are magical. I believe they are simply meditation tools. When I use my White Agate stone roller, it reminds me to direct my thoughts and intentions towards balance and release, and what do you know? I do feel more balanced and relaxed!
Beyond the spiritual benefits of natural rollers, they are said to offer physical benefits as well. First, they are said to promote lymphatic drainage, thereby reducing toxic build up as well as puffiness. They are also said to promote circulation, which reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
I do notice a subtle difference in the appearance of my skin after I use my roller – less puffy around my eyes, smoother in general – but the real reason I use it every single day is because it feels heavenly and does an amazing job helping my facial oils absorb into my skin.
Here's the secret tip that will make this your favorite new clean beauty tool (hopefully you’re still reading 😊):
Keep it in your freezer.
In the morning, I wash my face, apply my favorite serum (Dream Team this time of year), then go downstairs for breakfast. While I’m waiting for my coffee to brew, I pull the roller out of the freezer for a quick facial massage, and I’m ready for the day!
